adventures in black and white

so im not a very good photographer (and this blog is certainly evidence of that) but i LOVE taking pictures and i'm really trying to get better. like pretty much everyone, i love instagram for my iphone pictures but the other day i decided to play around with taking a few pictures in black and white while a bunch of us were out on a walk...

the last weeks

i have been the worst blogger ever the last couple weeks! my life the last few days has been quite the interesting combination....

1.  i (finally) handed in my honors thesis in religion so barring any huge missteps, i should now be done with my college capstone experience! if i never read another conservative article about how Islam is going to take over America, i will be a very, very happy camper

2. a bunch of friends and i cooked an enormous easter dinner for "the family" which included me forgetting that the grocery closed on easter sunday and running like a madwoman to buy a perfectly round water-based ham at the quicky mart... all was well though - i dressed up the ham with a mustard and maple glaze, popped it in the oven, and sealed my lips as to its origins. 20 of us crammed into the living room and celebrated together like family was meant to do

3.  i've been applying to jobs like a crazy person and having daily misgivings about my preparedness for real life. i've spent all year anticipating the end of school and now that it's actually happening i feel like im begging time to slow down. i can't believe that in a few weeks i won't be able to walk across the street and into a house full of all my best friends - one of whom is always willing to order pizza and watch a movie with me. i'm definitely going to need a hobby once i start living by my lonesome

4. my final spring party weekend has come and gone. despite bouts of gloomy weather, the weekend was pulled off with no major casualties (with the exception of a little bit of my dignity and a lot of my liver)

so, as you can see, between writing my thesis, pondering my future,  and drinking my life away, there's been little time for wanderlusting.

if all of that was too wordy, here is my last week in pictures:

future living

i don't know if it's just because i'm about to graduate into the great unknown that we like to call the "real world" or if im simply hankering for a space to call my own after living in dorms with roommates for four years, but i can't seem to stop combing the web for home decorating ideas. call me crazy, but at night i go to sleep thinking about paint colors, curtains, and chaise lounges when i really should be focused on my honors thesis and looking for jobs. i don't even know where i'm going to be come june, but alas!, i know it will be well decorated. i never thought that i'd be one for white couches and clean lines - i've always considered myself more of a hippie-cluttered girl - but now that i've starting looking everything i love is light, neutral, and airy... apparently my style has changed. right now my favorite way to collect inspiration is definitely on pinterest but there's a few blogs i've been loving too...

blush

Blush

if i had unlimited funds i would probably have a closet filled solely with blush colored clothing in soft fabrics. something about the color just makes me feel beautiful, put together, and utterly feminine. who am i kidding? it makes me feel like a grown up classy lady... something i am most certainly not.

a day in pictures

i kissed a nose, i celebrated a birthday, i got squished, i played battleshots

things they don't have in central ny

this past week nichole and i road tripped down to DC for some interviews - the drive was long, but it was super nice to get out of hamilton and see the 'real world.' the cherry blossoms were in full force in DC and the 70 degree weather was a welcome change from rainy new york. the best part? i was able to see two lovely ladies that i haven't seen in a while - cait and i had a yummy lunch at paul and walked around the mall (i can't believe it's been 2 years since i've seen her!) and then i met up with maressa who toured me around georgetown and took me out drinking in adams morgan. all in all it was a whirlwind but well worth the trip... fingers crossed i find gainful employment and can spend much more time in the beautiful district of columbia.

here are some things that they don't have in central new york:
a cute pup named booey
public transportation (amazing - i'm obsessed with the metro)
cracker barrel (who knew i'd been missing out??)
maressa, outdoor happy hour, and italian restaurants
taxi cabs on every corner (who don't mind 5 drunk girls playing with their radio)
taco bell & radio stations that actually play music

spring fever

in an effort to be as unproductive as possible, i’ve been online shopping all afternoon. this backless top i found on net-a-porter is killing me… someday i too will have a closet full of nina ricci blouses. i want to wear this with a messy bun, a stack of noisy gold bangles, and a ridiculously over sized “pouch” purse. yep, spring fever has most definitely hit

glasses: elizabeth and james
shorts: ksubi
sandals: botique 9
top: nina ricci

spring break

this week three friends and i trekked down to miami for our final spring break hurrah. we stayed in a gorgeous hotel, sipped (or maybe chugged) fruity drinks, danced at overpriced clubs, and watched hours of friends in our room (glamorous, i know) - mostly, we worked on our tans. when we arrived back in hamilton we were greeted with a welcome surprise - sunshine!! holding on to the final moments of our last spring break, we spent the day playing lawn games, drinking the ever delightful keystone light, and grilling burgers. all in all, it was quite a successful week.

birthday weekend

this weekend i turned 22! i had the best three day "birthday weekend" with my friends. on thursday, we had my very last crush party at nichols - it was quite bittersweet. friday i lazed around all day and then went out to hibachi with a bunch of friends to celebrate the big two two. it was all fun and games until i was forced to wear an enormous mask while all the staff sang to me. I was then mistakenly squirted in the eye with a large quantity of sake from a squeeze bottle... apparently our waiter had bad aim. anywho, the festivities continued all evening and if my hangover was any indication, too much fun was had by all. THEN on saturday, which was unseasonably gorgeous, a few of us drove down the road to this minuscule little brewery that just opened in hamilton to sample some local beer and tour the factory (ahem, converted first floor of a house). finally, we capped off the weekend with a couple glasses of wine with elizabeth's visiting parents and a night snuggled in anna's bed. all in all, a very successful birthday  - i am a lucky girl to get to spend it with so many friends.

hibachi dinner (poor iphone photo quality) - but that's me in the mask :(

starting up

i've decided to try and start up this blog for real this time... i think i need a place to put the things inspiring me. it's going to be a little bit of nature, a little bit of food, a little bit of fashion, and a lot of just my life.

right now i'm missing the beach... some sand between my toes, salt spray on my face, and sun on my skin. wishing for all of this while looking at the buckets of snow being dumped on hamilton new york.
